The Request
Design and program an interactive, multimedia CD-ROM
that includes video, audio, 3D animation, stills and voice-over
to persuade users that The Port of Philadelphia is the
best destination for their cargo.
The Answer
To increase the impact of the statistical data about the
terminals at the Port, Cirring incorporated digital video,
as well as sophisticated, interactive maps and 3D models.
As it launches, the program automatically performs a series
of tests to determine the current computer's capabilities
and chooses the best version for that specific machine.
This allows the program to deliver the necessary "wow"
factor for users with state-of-the-art computers while
remaining compatible with the broad range of machines
required by its world-wide, general distribution.
The program includes a 5-minute introductory video on
the region, presentations on the individual terminals, and statistical
data on the regional infrastructure. The CD-ROM also allows users to search
for terminals based on product categories and services. Each section includes
customized video, music, voice-over, text screens and 3-D graphics to
illustrate services and capabilities of the terminal. Most screens are
also printable.
The Bottom Line
The program won several awards, including recognition
from the local ad community as well as an internation
award for excellence from the American Association of
Port Marketers.
The CD-ROM was the key component of an
effort to create a cohesive marketing identity for The
Port of Philadelphia and Camden. The program has had a
demonstrable impact in communicating the strengths and
features of the Port to shipping companies as well as
legislators and lobbyists, regional authorities, and terminal
officials themselves.
